Painting has been on the back burner recently due to the end of the fall semester, my other artistic endeavors in ballet, and creating Christmas gifts from scratch . Also, currently working with Todd Duren on my portfolio website and will be posting a link to it soon.

Quick Sketches
After taking a weeklong break from painting after completing my show, I decided to do some small cloud sketches to give out as Christmas cards. I tried to use more subdued naturalistic colors for once and am going to focus on my color development in my future works. Each sketch is 5"x7" oil on watercolor paper.

Somewhere In Between

This is definitely a busy weekend for me, have my show up at MAC and performing in the Nutcracker with the Mobile Ballet.
I was also featured in Lagniappe and Mod Mobilian this past month. I am so happy to be dancing again and thankful for the opportunity to show my work!

This painting is another design for Kathryn Noletto's MFA Concert Glimpses of Another Side. I liked her title so much I decided to use it for this painting. I'm usually not one to write too much to describe a painting because I prefer to keep the image rather enigmatic to the viewer, but this specific image has a story behind it from a while ago. Make that 1990.
When beginning the design for these sets I wanted to definitely go for something sublime, because to me Katie's choreography is more sublime than beautiful. There are so many subtleties to her movements, yet they convey the tension of emotions kept under the surface ready to burst forth. Sometimes they do, but it is never in a gratuitous way.
So keeping this in mind I attempted to make images that made the viewer feel as if they were moving upward and out of a place to another. This image specifically came to me from a memory a long time ago during my third dance recital. It was an outer space themed one with the backdrops being different scenes from space. I distinctly remember being backstage and staring at a set that was thick clouds with two holes with sky poking through. One hole had a beautiful sunny sky with pink clouds and the other hole was darkness with some stars. Instead of chatting and being excited like a normal five year old, I was experiencing "the sublime" for the first time. I tried to imagine what it would be like to venture into either sky, and wondered what it would be like to be out in space alone in total darkness. Of course this terrified me as my imagination began to run wild, but luckily I had to go on stage and do a tap dance to a song about a rocket ship to make me forget about it. I suppose my introspection started early for the most part!
In the next post I will put all five images together in the order they will be presented in the show. I only had the time to paint three originals, so two of the sets are actually made from some of my older work.

Current Project
I am so lucky to have some projects going on at the moment..the one I am most excited about is designing the sets for my best friend Kathryn Noletto's MFA Dance Concert at FSU titled Glimpses of Another Side. I am doing five different paintings for her, here is the first one that I have finished completely:

New Beginnings..
So I have not been able to post much on here over the last few months. Ended up moving back to Bama and trying to get my life started up here so I can begin painting again! I miss it so much. But in the meantime I want to post old paintings I did first year of grad school...want to re-work these images and give them new life:
